Fern Flat Camping Area, Eungella National Park
Fern Flat is a serene forest campground nestled near Broken River. It’s just 600 m from the Broken River visitor area and reachable by 2WD. There are six numbered campsites, basic non flush toilets, and picnic tables. Fires are allowed in designated rings but only with care and subject to fire bans. You’ll need to bring all of your water, food, and gear.
It’s pure nature with minimal frills. The quiet nights and forest surrounds make this one of our favourites.
Valley View Camping
Valley View Camping is right near Finch Hatton Gorge, on a 10 acre block bordering Eungella National Park. It has flat, grassy paddocks you can pick from when you arrive, flushing toilets, and hot showers.
The lower paddock has a playground and undercover areas. You’re free to camp with your pet as long as you clean up after them, light fires in designated pits or bring your own fire pit, and enjoy sweeping mountain views. It’s relaxed, spacious, and just a short ride or drive from the trails.
Platypus Bush Camp
Just 2 km from the entrance to Finch Hatton Gorge, Platypus Bush Camp blends rainforest ambiance with camping comfort. It offers timber huts and bush style camping, a communal kitchen, rainforest showers, and fire pit areas.
It’s an immersive nature experience that still gives you enough comfort for an overnight stay after all your trail runs.
Broken River Camping Area
Within Eungella National Park, the Broken River camping area sits in open bushland beside the Broken River itself. It’s accessible by 2WD and caters to tents, camper trailers, and small motorhomes. There are roughly eight sites, non flush toilets, and open fires are allowed in fire rings depending on conditions.
Generator use is restricted. Bring your own water, food, and firewood. Beyond camping, you can walk the trails and try your luck at spotting platypus in the river.
