Some of our fav MTB spots in QLD
Queensland is home to some seriously epic mountain biking. From lush rainforests to rocky ridge lines, there’s no shortage of dirt to explore. And while Finch Hatton MTB will always be our number one pick, if we can’t ride there, these are a few of our favourite mountain bike parks across the Sunshine State.
Whether you’re chasing a weekend escape, a local lap, or a new adventure road trip, these spots are well worth the ride.
Check out the Trailforks links for more in-depth information on each of our picks!
Smithfield Mountain Bike Park (Cairns)
Let’s kick things off in the tropics. Smithfield Mountain Bike Park is one of Australia’s oldest mountain bike parks and still one of the best. Nestled just outside Cairns, it delivers a lush rainforest experience that’s packed with flow, tech, and history. The Trails have a bit of everything here; beginner loops, World Championship level downhill, and epic cross-country circuits winding through the green.
Many with an awesome view of the Great Barrier Reef!
Expect a mix of machine built flow trails, natural features, and some heart thumping descents. The rainforest canopy provides both challenge and beauty, and when you’re done riding, you’re minutes from the beach or a post ride smoothie in town. If you’re up north, Smithfield is a must.
Daisy Hill Conservation Park (Brisbane)
Close to the city but a world away, Daisy Hill is southeast QLD’s go to for weekend warriors and weekday spins alike. The trail network is well maintained, beginner friendly, and super accessible, making it perfect for riders of all skill levels. You’ll find flowing loops that are fast and fun, as well as short climbs that pack a punch. The conservation park has also been set aside to preserve threatened flora and fauna, so keep an eye out for koalas’ as you wind through the gum trees!
Daisy Hill is also a great intro to trail riding for those just starting out, but with enough speed and flow to keep experienced riders grinning too.
Douglas Mountain Bike Park (Townsville)
Overlooking Townsville and Magnetic Island, Douglas MTB Park brings elevation and panoramic views to the table. It’s dry, rocky, and technical in parts, giving riders a good challenge with a classic North Queensland backdrop.
With well signed loops and fun descents, it’s a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. The terrain is a little looser and more exposed than some of the southern parks, but that just adds to the adventure. Perfect for those who like their rides with a side of grit.
First Turkey MTB Reserve (Rockhampton)
Rounding out our list is First Turkey MTB Reserve, Rockhampton’s flagship trail network. Carved into the Berserker Ranges, this park is known for its steep descents, raw terrain, and big views. It’s got everything from green cruisers to black diamond send fests, and the trail crew here are constantly refining and expanding the network.
You’ll find everything from beginner friendly loops to technical trails like (insert trail name here) that will keep even advanced riders on their toes. Plus, the local MTB community is strong and welcoming. Don’t be surprised if you make a few riding buddies along the way.
From rainforests to ridge lines, Queensland has a mountain biking scene as diverse as its landscapes. Whether you’re just starting out or hunting for your next challenge, these spots offer something special.
Each park has its own unique terrain, trail style, and local flavour, shaped by the riders and landscapes around them. From technical rock gardens to flowy forest loops, there’s always something new to discover.
