Getting Here: Your road to Finch Hatton MTB
Finch Hatton MTB sits in the heart of Queensland’s Pioneer Valley, about an hour west of Mackay. The drive alone is worth the trip, winding through sugar cane fields, past local pubs, and into the rainforest-covered foothills of Eungella National Park.
Whether you’re flying in, road-tripping, or hitching a lift with the crew from Off Camber MTB, getting here is easy and part of the adventure.
Flying to Mackay
The closest airport is Mackay (MKY), around 80 kilometres from the trails. Direct flights run daily from Brisbane (about 1 hour 30 minutes) and Sydney (around 2 hours 30 minutes) with Qantas, Virgin, and Jetstar. Mackay Airport has all major car hire options on-site, making it easy to pick up your wheels and hit the road straight away.
Driving to Finch Hatton
From Mackay, head west along the Mackay-Eungella Road through Marian and Mirani before reaching Finch Hatton. The trip takes just over an hour and is sealed the entire way. The scenery changes quickly as you leave the coast behind; the air cools, the trees get taller, and the mountains start to rise. It’s an easy, scenic drive that’s perfect for bike-packed road trippers.
Off Camber MTB Transfers
If you’d rather skip the car hire, Off Camber MTB has you sorted. They run dedicated transfer services between Mackay and the Whitsunday Coast Airport direct to Finch Hatton and Eungella. Their air-conditioned shuttle seats up to six passengers and comes with a trailer built for bikes and gear.
There’s even the option for a grocery stop at Woolworths Marian if you want to stock up before hitting the hills. Transfers run daily (except Saturdays) and can be booked one way or return, making it the perfect choice for fly-in riders or small groups heading straight for the trails.
Local Travel Tips
Once you arrive, you’ll find plenty of parking at the Finch Hatton MTB trailhead, along with toilets, picnic shelters, and shady spots to set up for the day. Fuel and supplies are available in Finch Hatton township, and there’s coffee just down the road if you need a pre-ride hit.
Mobile coverage can be patchy in the upper valley, so download maps before leaving Mackay, and keep an eye on trail conditions before your trip.
