Trail Update – Cyclone Koji
Over the past week, Finch Hatton and the wider Pioneer Valley have experienced significant rainfall associated with Cyclone Koji. As expected, this has had an impact on the trail network.
Following an onsite inspection, the trails are currently closed while conditions stabilise and essential works continue. While there has been damage in places, the positive news is that the network has held up remarkably well given the amount of rain, and the Finch Hatton MTB maintenance crew has already made substantial progress.
Fallen trees on descent trails have been cleared, the shuttle road is open again, and work is continuing on drainage, debris removal, and key access points. That said, heavy rain is still moving through the valley, and trail conditions remain variable.
The plan is for a staged reopening once it’s safe to do so. A further update is expected later this week with details on which trails will reopen first. Some sections will remain closed for a few weeks while we wait on machinery to complete repairs.
- When trails do reopen, we ask riders to:
- Only ride trails that are clearly marked as open
- Respect all closure signage
- Ride cautiously, as ruts, sticks, sand, and debris may still be present
- Be aware the road conditions from Mackay may be impacted. Check QLD Traffic for up to date conditions and closures.
We’ll continue to share updates as inspections are completed and conditions improve. We’ll also mark all Open trails on the Trails page as they reopen.
Thanks for your patience and support, and a big shoutout to the trail crew who’ve been working hard in tough conditions to get Finch Hatton MTB back up and running.
More soon.
