The Need to Know

Whether it’s your first ride or you’re back for more laps, a bit of local knowledge goes a long way. We’ve gone through your frequently asked questions and pulled together the key things you need to know.

From planning your ride to understanding how the network works, knowing what to expect helps you make the most of your time at Finch Hatton MTB.

Are the trails open and how do I access them?

Our trails are free to ride and open year round, unless impacted by severe weather, so you can plan a ride whenever it suits.

To reach the top, climb up G’Day G’Day trail and earn your descent. The pump track is designed for mountain bikes but is also open to other bikes and scooters, making it a great space to warm up or build skills.

How do I stay up to date with trail conditions and updates?

Conditions can change quickly, so staying informed is key. Follow our social channels, download the Trailforks app and subscribe to Trail Tales to keep up with trail updates, events and everything happening on the ground.

What should I do in an emergency?

Your safety comes first. In an emergency, call 000 or 112 from your mobile. For non-emergencies or maintenance issues, contact Mackay Regional Council on 1300 622 529.

Mobile reception can be limited or even non-existent in some areas due to the surrounding terrain. Be prepared by downloading maps and considering additional safety measures when riding in more remote sections; like having a Personal Locator Beacon or riding with 1+ other person(s).

Always ride within your limits and to conditions.

Who built and maintains the trails?

The network was designed and built by World Trail and is maintained by Mackay Regional Council’s trail crew. Stage 2 will expand the network to around 82 kilometres, adding more airflow and gravity trails and a wilderness trail linking Eungella to Finch Hatton.

We ride on the traditional lands of the Yuwi, Widi, Barada Barna and Birriah peoples and acknowledge their connection to Country.

A little preparation goes a long way. Stay informed, ride within your limits and respect the trails and the environment around you. Do that, and you’ll get the most out of every ride at Finch Hatton MTB.
See you soon.

Mackay Regional Council acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the Mackay Region the Yuwi, Widi, Barada Barna and Birriah peoples, and the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and their custodianship and connection with land, waters, and communities.

We pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and to Elders past and present.
