Finding the flow – Cole Claxton from Ride Whitsunday shares his first impressions of Finch Hatton MTB.

A quick weather check, coffee, and message to the group chat – ‘Finch Hatton today’? We pack the gear before we all meet down at the Ride Whitsunday store. A mixed crowd of Whitsundays locals all eager with anticipation. What does this new riding spot hold?? After a scenic drive through the farmland back roads past green rolling hills and tiny rural towns we arrive!

We start the day with an easy pedal up G’day G’day. As we twist and wind up the climbing trail our heart rates come up, but we aren’t puffing enough to slow down the banter.

Once at the top we re-group for a quick consultation of the trail plan. Some more mellow riders crack off down a green trail – No Drama Cane Farmer whilst the rest of the group decides to go straight into something a little more spicy – Chuck a Sickie.

After a few tight turns the mind, body and bike start to work as one. A ‘hoot’ from the back nudges the group faster as the train of riders snake their way down the trail. Now we’re fully up to speed, weaving, slashing and jumping through the cycads and gum trees.

As we style it out over the final jump we re-group for a fist bump and a couple of stories about the trail. The other riders pop out nearby after their fun adventure ride down the easier trail.

‘Again?’

By the end of the day all the girls, guys, mums and dads are well and truly ready for a beer and a swim in the creek.

An epic day for the books, and the first weekend of many!
