Rocky Trail launches mountain bike racing at Finch Hatton MTB
FHMTB – UP & RACING
Over 300 mountain bike riders descended on Finch Hatton MTB for a weekend of racing and adventure at the Rocky Trail Entertainment Fox Superflow® presented by Stan’s.
Despite some damp weather, the trails held up extremely well, and the event was a resounding success, exceeding expectations with a strong showing from local riders.
The event attracted a diverse range of riders, with some “big hitters” battling it out for top honours. National Champion Jess Hoskin from the Sunshine Coast dominated the Elite Women’s category, finishing a full 30 seconds ahead of the competition. National Champion and former World Cup racer Cameron Allonby from Brisbane was the fastest man over the weekend, showcasing his experience and power.
Adding to the excitement, Under 17 racers impressed everyone with their speed and talent. Oliver Bradey from the Sunshine Coast even placed an impressive third overall, highlighting the depth of upcoming talent in Australian mountain biking.
Riders of all abilities enjoyed the diverse terrain, from flowing single-track to challenging descents. The “Race the Way You Ride” format of the Fox Superflow®, with untimed climbs and timed downhill sections, allowed riders to explore the trails at their own pace and truly experience the our region’s natural beauty.
The event had an overwhelming participation from Mackay’s mountain bike and business community. Local businesses were brimming with bikers and their families, while over 80 local riders took to the course, showcasing the growing enthusiasm for the sport and the trails.
“We were really pleased with the over 300 competitors and it’s fantastic to see that the local riders participated and came out in force,” said Juliane Wisata, owner of Rocky Trail Entertainment.
“This groundswell of biking activity in the local community is pivotal to the success of a MTB Destination.”
According to Rocky Trails, riders travelled as far as Canberra, Sydney, Townsville, Rockhampton, Cairns, and throughout South East Queensland.
With such a big number of competitors, top riders participating, a strong local contingent and nothing but praise for the trails, it’s fair to say the even was a resounding success and has laid the groundwork for many more successful events at Finch Hatton MTB.
