Riding the Storm Windows
If you have checked the forecast lately, you will know the wet season has properly arrived at Finch Hatton. Hot days, heavy air and short afternoon storms are all part of summer up here. But that does not mean the riding stops. It just means we ride a little differently.
Right now, this is what riding looks like at Finch Hatton:
- Early mornings are the best window for trail time
- The rainforest is alive with birds and movement
- Trails are often lightly damp or more
- Afternoon storms roll through fast and loud
- After the rain, mist lifts through the valley and the waterfalls fire up
This is when Finch Hatton really comes alive. The rainforest is lush, the creeks are flowing and the waterfalls are at full power. There is nothing better than finishing a hot summer ride and diving straight into cold, fresh water. Summer rides might be shorter and a little more planned, but the rewards can be massive.
Wet season also calls for a bit of common sense. Heavy rain can change trail conditions quickly, and knowing when to ride and when to wait is part of riding responsibly. Keeping a regular eye on the weather apps and our social media channels for any trail updates or closures is the best way to stay in the loop before you head out.
If some trails are closed, there is always a good reason. Letting them dry properly protects the surface and keeps the whole network strong for the long run.
And when the storms roll in and riding is off the cards, Finch Hatton still delivers:
- A swim at the Gorge
- A slow walk under the palms
- A café stop while the rain eases off
